Ep 19: When Birds Make a Blip

Speaker2: Are we there yet?

Speaker1: I'm an aspiring birder, and how that came to be is a story for another time. But let's just say that I've always had an affinity and a fascination with our fine feathered friends, and I was recently listening to a birding podcast. Yes, I know that's lame. And I learned that large flocks of migratory birds can actually register. They can make a blip on weather radar. Isn't that fascinating? Especially when we think about just how small the average bird is. For example, purple martins. They're a bird that's usually around 7 to 8in in size. Individually, they're not going to be noticeable. But in April and May when they migrate, they form flocks with other swallows that can number in the hundreds of thousands. The insignificant, it would seem, has become impactful. The minute has become something of magnitude. And all of that came about because of unity. There's an old saying that birds of a feather flock together. Well, when the Lord's people try to make an impact on their own, it's certainly doable. But it really makes a difference. When we unify, when we work together. There's this beautiful prayer that Jesus says for his disciples in John 17, verses 22 and 23. The glory which you have given me, I give to them, that they may be one just as we are one. I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them, even as you have loved me. The world would know them because of unity, because they would be perfected in unity. The question comes, are we united this morning? Are we flocking together? Are we noticeable as the Lord's people? A giving God the glory, of course, for our unity and love.

Speaker1: Or are we limiting ourselves? Are we not even making a blip on the spiritual radar because we are trying to do things alone? Surely that's not what Jesus had in mind when he told his disciples to go into all the world. I think the Christians in Acts chapter 246 and 47 had it right. I think they would have shown up on the radar. Scripture says day by day, continuing with one mind in the temple and breaking bread from house to house. They were taking their meals together with gladness and In sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. We should all have our individual works, and if we do have those, that's awesome. We should certainly keep those up. But don't think for one second that we have to do it alone, or even further than that, that we were meant to do it alone. Brethren, we make a bigger impact when we flock together. Let's show our unity. Let's not just make a blip. Let's make an impact for the master. Well, those are my thoughts for your Sunday morning drive. And now it's time to hear yours. And what are some ways that we can be better about working together with our brothers and sisters to accomplish great things for the Kingdom of God? And lastly, are we really making an impact for Jesus in the world around us?
