Ep 37: Iconic Voices

Well, I'm excited to let you know that with the new Year, we are also going to be joined by some new voices. This year, you can look forward to hearing from 12 fantastic guest speakers, one a month and hearing their thoughts for your Sunday morning drive. So keep an eye and ear out for those episodes when they drop, and I know you'll be blessed. And with that, let's get into our last episode of 2020 2024. This is episode 37 Iconic voices. Let's go to church.

Speaker2: Are we there yet?

Speaker1: Later this week. 2024 comes to a close and 2025 starts anew. And this is for many a time of personal reflection, a time perhaps of setting goals for the upcoming new year. But it's also a time of remembering those who we may have lost in the current year. And I've been seeing a lot of In Memoriam posts for the actors that we've lost over the last few years, and we certainly have lost some iconic voices just since 2020. We've lost voices like Sean Connery, Kevin Conroy, those of you that grew up in the 90s know him as the Batman.

Speaker3: I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman.

Speaker1: We've lost Doc Harris, Donald Sutherland, James Earl Jones, who among many other roles, voiced Darth Vader.

Speaker3: Luke, I am your father.

Speaker1: We've lost Maggie Smith and many others. Yes, they're no longer with us, and we miss their voices. And because of that, many times we go back and revisit their works over and over again just to hear them, because we treasure their words and cherish the relatively little time they spent enriching our lives with their presence. You know, I wonder if the apostles ever felt this way about the voice of Jesus, of the voice of their teacher, of their mentor. And I'm sure that it felt like Jesus was with them for far too brief of a time. But he even said this concerning himself when the chief priests sought to take hold of him. John 733 says, Then Jesus said unto them, yet a little while I am with you, and then I go to him that sent me. But how encouraging would it have been to hear the voice of Jesus say that he would be with them always? Matthew 28 verse 20 says, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you to do. And lo, I am with you always, even until the end of the age. Now we know, yes, that the voice of God is with us as well through Scripture, and we can always go back and revisit his works through the pages of the Bible. But do we really heed his voice? The apostles were reminded that even as dear as their friend and mentor was to them, and the years they spent by his side, it wasn't enough just to listen to his voice and love the things he said, but they also must be followed.

Speaker1: In Matthew 17 verse five, when Peter is is speaking, it's almost as if the voice of the father speaks out, as if to silence his proposal. It says while he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice out of the cloud said, this is my beloved son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him. You know there are many voices in the world today that are pleasant to hear that might tickle our ears, but there's only one worth listening to. If there is a voice that we should love, if there is a voice that is that is truly iconic. If there is a voice that we remember, then let it be the sweet voice of Jesus Christ revealed to us in his words through Scripture. There are plenty of memorable and iconic voices, and those voices have shared many memorable and iconic lines, but none should be more precious to us than that of the father. Speaking about the son, where he says, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him. Well, those are my thoughts for your Sunday morning drive. Now it's time to hear yours.
