We have Ryan Scheer joining us today. Ryan is the pulpit minister for the Huntingburg Church of Christ in Huntingburg, Indiana. He also serves as a part time chaplain at Deaconess Memorial in Jasper and is a substitute teacher. Ryan is also a huge Star Wars fan. Speaker 3: Getting motivated to do something that takes extra effort isn't always easy. If we know it's going to hurt a little, wear us out or cost us something, especially our time, it just isn't desirable. And that is why so many that seemingly want to follow the Lord begin to fade away or burn out, especially when it comes to the urgency of spreading the gospel. We may not picture it as a life or death situation, so we do nothing. But if we did see it literally as life or death, how would we display and spread our faith? Would we get out and knock doors? Would we open up our Bibles with friends? Would we see the emergency in telling others about Jesus every day? This reminds me of an amazing story. In 1945, Desmond Doss became the first conscientious objector in US history to earn himself the Congressional Medal of Honor. How did he accomplish this? Well, at the Battle of Okinawa, as a medic without a weapon, he single handedly saved the lives of roughly 75 fellow soldiers by carrying them to safety one by one, desperately wanting to save all of them, he prayed the prayer, Lord, please let me get just one more. And he did so after each rescue. This is similar to the determination that Paul had for souls. In Philippians four, Paul makes it known that he had gone through a lot in his journey of preaching the gospel. He had been well fed and hungry. He had been financially well and poor. He had been welcomed and persecuted. In verse 13 he says, I can do all things through him who strengthens me. God gave him the strength to fulfill his mission no matter the circumstance. Wouldn't it be great if through all of our circumstances, we would go teach one more soul?
