Ep 7: A Rare Occurrence

Speaker2: Are we there yet?

Speaker1: At the time of this recording, we're currently able to observe a rare geomagnetic phenomenon. A huge solar flare has caused the Northern Lights, which are usually limited to the far northern hemisphere, to be visible as far south as the state of Florida. A beautiful but ultimately rare occurrence. And if you've been checking Facebook or Instagram or whatever social media platform you ascribe to, I'm sure it's been flooded with astoundingly beautiful pictures of lights in the sky. And all of this got me to thinking specifically about light and how it's used in Scripture. Jesus mentions light in several contexts throughout his ministry. For instance, in John nine five he says, as long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Later on in Scripture, when talking about his followers and and what they're going to be doing later on in their ministries, he says, you are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. And we also see Jesus reference light when speaking to Saul before sending him to the Gentiles. And here he gives the future Paul his purpose. Acts 2618. To open their eyes in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me. And I believe that there is something we can all certainly take away from the scriptures. Use and discussion on light, the light that we are to shine in this world.

Speaker1: It's beautiful. Yes, of course it is. It comes from Jesus and my friends. The world is starving for it. And the wild thing is, they don't even know it. And here's the kicker the light that we shine as Christians should not be a rare occurrence. It shouldn't be something that whenever we are out in the world and we're living like Jesus, and we're showing people the love of God, it shouldn't be shocking because we are his people. If anything, it should be shocking because it is so commonplace in our lives that we've made it a habit, that we've made it part of our everyday existence. Living for the master. And if we're honest with ourselves, and if I'm honest with myself, we can do better in our consistency, in our humility, and with the seriousness with which we take the command in Matthew 516, let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven. It's not about us, it's about him. Friends, let's take our charge seriously. The world is in utter darkness. Let's shine the light of Christ. Not occasionally, but on every occasion.
