Ep 8: A Chimney in the Woods

This is episode eight, A chimney in the woods. Let's go to church.

Speaker2: Are we there yet?

Speaker1: My family owns some property down in Todd County, Kentucky, and we use it solely for hunting and camping. And we have lots of great memories of that property, that property that we simply and affectionately call the land. The land used to be a farm and a homestead. Years ago, probably in the mid to late 1800s, and because of this, remnants of rusted farm tools and the rotting skeletons of collapsing barns litter the landscape. Now, my favorite aspect about the property are the remains of the old farmhouse. All that's left is the foundation, and up until about the last ten years, a massive limestone chimney that had stood the test of time. I'll be sure to put a picture of that on our Twitter feed. Through all the elements and everything that Mother Nature had to throw at it. That chimney stood for decades, and it always seemed like this magical and eerie monument shooting up in the middle of the woods after the forest had long reclaimed everything else. Of course, the only reason that the chimney stood for so long is because of the foundation it was built upon. But what's interesting is that the foundation was barely visible beneath all the moss, and the new growth that had already reclaimed the land. And the only way one could tell that a strong foundation even existed is because of what was built upon it. And that makes me wonder. It makes me wonder if others notice my foundation because of me. Not that it's about me, of course, but we are. At least we should be testaments to the one who we build our lives upon.

Speaker1: And of course, I'm talking about Jesus, the chief cornerstone, the one True foundation. If you read through first Corinthians chapter three, verses five through 15, you see that Paul is talking about jealousy among the brethren, and there was a division among them because of who had brought them to faith. In first Corinthians 310 and 11, Scripture states according to the grace of God, which was given to me like a wise master builder. I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. There is one foundation Jesus Christ. Let's be careful how we build on that foundation. Our foundation is strong enough to weather any storm, to keep us firm, to keep us standing for the long term and let our lives be a testament to the one we build upon. Let us be like that old chimney in the woods, standing out among the worldly landscape around us. A tribute to the one who died for us, pointing the way so that others might choose to also build upon Christ. I'm Daniel Daub, and these have been some thoughts for your Sunday morning drive.
